The Hancock Hotel: Community Center, Roadhouse & stop along the way.The Hotel has been a community center for not only Hancock, Rochester, Granville & Warren,
but a stop along the way on Rtes 100 and 125 in the heart of Vermont.

The purpose of this benefit is to assist with short term expenses related to not having a working well and boiler and thus no income since Irene. The Hotel can fix these things and reopen, with our help.

If you’re going to take 125 to Middlebury (from Boston, say) or continue up 100 to the Ben and Jerry’s Factory, the Old Hancock Hotel (I don’t think it’s marked Vermont Home Bakery anywhere) has a nice little bakery, a full menu including breakfast all the time (and some of the best fresh-squeezed orange juice I’ve had anywhere), and a small gift shop. If you sit at a table on the porch, you’ll be surrounded by gorgeous views at a not-too-busy intersection. There are three separate menus (breakfast and lunch regulars, house specials, and daily specials, plus a steady take-out pizza business); though my favorite dish, the seafood Provencale, is no longer on any of the menus, I’m sometimes able to get it as a special request, and when I can’t there are usually some very fine comparable dishes. There are rooms to stay in upstairs too. The Middlebury restaurant scene is uneven, and the places in Warren can be expensive and overbooked, so Hancock is a safer bet. If you’re coming from the south you’ll have just passed a terrific organic pick-your-own berry place (Sunshine Valley) by the time you reach here, and you could stop here for a milk shake or piece of homemade pie.

Took my Mom to the Sunday brunch on Mothers Day. The buffet was full of wonderful choices. Eggs are cooked to order. They feature Green Mountain Coffee Roasters coffee. We left very full and very satisfied. One thing to note they don’t take plastic. The food is delicious. The service is fast and friendly. The rustic and historic atmosphere is Vermont quaint. ‎ – May 10, 2010
